A discussion session with the families of the missing in Daraya
A consultative session with the families of the missing in Daraya was organized by Mizan for Legal Studies and Human Rights, in cooperation with the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, on August 25, 2025, at the headquarters of the Islamic Association, established in 1957.
The dialogue brought together twenty-five women—mothers and wives of the missing—alongside three lawyers from Mizan’s team, two specialists in psychological support, Dr. Abdul Rahim Ziyada (Head of the Local Administration in Daraya), and several volunteers from Mizan’s team.
The session was moderated by lawyer Yasser Al-Farhan (Advisor to Mizan) and engineer Mohammad Hattab (Deputy Director of the Project for Supporting Families of the Missing).
Participants discussed the priority needs of the families of the missing in Daraya, whose voices have long remained subdued due to their presence in areas under Assad regime control—preventing them from engaging in victims’ associations’ activities and exacerbating their psychological, health, livelihood, and legal struggles. With remarkable awareness, the women expressed their determination to continue pursuing paths of transitional justice, including contributing to practical steps in reparation and accountability processes.
