Towards Achieving Justice in Syria
Mizan Organization’s vision is grounded in the belief that transitional justice represents a fundamental pathway to building a state governed by the rule of law—through ensuring justice for victims, holding perpetrators accountable, and preventing the recurrence of violations, thereby achieving sustainable peace. The organization also emphasizes the central role of victims in shaping justice processes and promoting a culture of human rights and dialogue within society.
The organization has launched its new project titled “Towards Achieving Justice,” which aims to strengthen the concepts of transitional justice and support pathways toward sustainable peace in Syria. This will be achieved through direct engagement with victims, civil society organizations, and activists across three governorates: Latakia, Tartous, and Deir ez-Zor.
The project targets approximately 90 participants, including victims’ families, human rights activists, media professionals, and civil society representatives. It seeks to build a shared understanding of transitional justice mechanisms and their importance in achieving justice and social cohesion.
The project includes a series of dialogue sessions and training workshops focusing on key issues such as documentation of violations, reparations, legal accountability, and institutional reform, in addition to promoting concepts of reconciliation and social peace. It also aims to amplify victims’ voices to decision-makers by developing practical recommendations and sharing them with relevant stakeholders.
As part of its direct support to affected communities, the project provides legal assistance to a number of families of victims of enforced disappearance, helping them overcome legal challenges and restore their rights.
The project is distinguished by its strong focus on the meaningful participation of victims in transitional justice processes, enhancing their role in shaping future policies and contributing to building a more cohesive and just Syrian society.
It is expected that the project will strengthen coordination among key actors in this field and raise public awareness, thereby supporting national efforts aimed at achieving justice and sustainable peace in Syria.
