Mizan Organization Participates in a Consultative Workshop on the National Strategy to Combat Torture in Syria
Mizan Organization participated in the consultative workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic on Monday, 8 June 2026, in Damascus, entitled: “Dialogue with Victims’ Associations and Syrian Civil Society Organizations on the Review and Development of the Draft Comprehensive National Strategy of the Syrian Arab Republic for Combating and Preventing Torture.”
The organization’s participation came as part of broad engagement by representatives of civil society organizations, victims’ associations, and survivors, with the aim of discussing the draft national strategy and providing observations and perspectives that contribute to its development in line with international human rights standards, while strengthening mechanisms for the prevention of torture and the prevention of its recurrence.
During its participation, Mizan Organization emphasized the importance of building a comprehensive national approach grounded in justice and human dignity, while ensuring the meaningful involvement of civil society organizations in shaping policies related to human rights and transitional justice.
The workshop addressed several key themes, most notably international legal obligations related to combating torture, a review of the national legal framework, as well as discussions on the draft national strategy and coordination and consultation mechanisms for exchanging feedback and recommendations in preparation for its official launch.
