The current human rights situation in the Syrian Arab Republic in the context of
recent events
Main Condemnations and Concerns
Condemnation of Violence: The Council unequivocally condemns the use of lethal violence against peaceful protesters by the Syrian authorities and the hindrance of access to medical treatment
. Loss of Life: The Council expresses deep regret at the death of hundreds of people in connection with the political protests
. Observed Violations: Grave concern is expressed regarding alleged deliberate killings, arrests, and instances of torture of peaceful protesters

Demands for the Syrian Government
Cessation of Violations: The Council urges the Syrian government to immediately put an end to all human rights violations and protect its population
. Fundamental Freedoms: It demands respect for the freedoms of expression and assembly, allowing access to the Internet and telecommunications, and lifting censorship on reporting
. Release of Detainees: The resolution calls for the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience and arbitrarily detained persons, including lawyers, human rights defenders, and journalists
. Political Reform: The authorities are urged to enlarge the scope of political participation to ensure civil liberties and social justice

International Actions and Investigation
Investigative Mission: The Council requests the OHCHR to urgently dispatch a mission to investigate all alleged violations and establish the facts to avoid impunity and ensure accountability
